Newly elected Council for East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) President Paulos Weldehaimanot officially assumed office on Tuesday at the CECAFA Secretariat Headquarters, where he was warmly received by Hussein Mohamed of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).
Flanked by Interim Executive Director Jean Sseninde, Weldehaimanot outlined a bold vision centered on strengthening institutional structures, enhancing strategic partnerships, and driving sustainable growth across the region. He emphasized closer collaboration with the Football Kenya Federation and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to boost CECAFA’s operational capacity.
Earlier engagements with the Ministry focused on plans to establish a permanent CECAFA Headquarters in Nairobi, a move expected to enhance stability and expand the body’s regional influence.
Weldehaimanot also stressed the need to build stronger human resource capacity as Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania prepare to co-host the Africa Cup of Nations, underscoring the region’s opportunity to elevate its football profile.
In his remarks, Hussein Mohamed pledged full support to ensure CECAFA achieves its strategic objectives, signaling a united front in advancing East and Central African football.
