Charles Kagimu, a 25-year-old Ugandan cyclist, made history by becoming the first Ugandan to complete a road race at the Olympics.
Kagimu managed to finish in a 77th in the men’s road race at the Paris Olympics on August 3rd.
The race won by Belgian Remco Evenepoel who finished with a time of 6 hours, 19 minutes, and 34 seconds followed by French cyclists Valentin Madouas and Christopher Laporte, who took silver and bronze, respectively.
Not the most desirable of finishes but right to say it was a dream come true for the Olympic debutant considering he was barely born, 40 years ago when when Muharud Mukasa and Ernest Buule represented Uganda in cycling at the Los Angeles 1984 games.
Kagimu has had a successful cycling career, winning the men’s elite Individual Time Trial (ITT) gold at the 13th Africa Games in Ghana.
He has also won the time trial at the African Road Championships in 2023.
