This was the second time in two consecutive years when Kasim Murungi beat Derrick Mubiru in Week 6 main fight of the Uganda Boxing Champions League at Club Obligato on Saturday evening.
With a 5:0 unanimous result in the Elite 57kgs, East cost’s Murungi managed to prove his dominance over Mubiru, putting him onto the floor not once, not twice but thrice.
Despite Mubiru too throwing a couple of hard punches that did wind up Murungi this putting him in the ropes, it only looked like it was going one way after visible sights of lack in balance from the Namugoona based boxer.
In another fight of the night, Kato Kazibwe of Kololo Boxing Club alias the Untold managed to hold on UPDF’s Ochan Geofrey in the Elite 48Kgs.
Kato who is known for his Jab Jab system method of boxing managed to keep Ochan on a far inorder to suck the power out of him to win with a 5:2 split result after review.
Balyegesa Benon who hails from Cobap BC also managed to win by a 4:3 split decision against Mudenya Joel of EastCoast BC in the Elite 54Kgs.
According to the revealers in the Arena, this was the most entertaining fight on the day with boxers going onto the offensive, boxing each other to force the fight into review before Balyegesa was announced winner.
COBAP’s Broline Kimbugwe “Stylist” also suffered his second loss of the season after being boxed by Mutajjazi’s Mutaasa Ashraf in a closing contested fight.
Despite Mutaasa winning the fight, Kimbugwe had a couple moments that displayed improvements in his game from the first one he lost to Nerrick Tumusiime on day One.
In a super heavyweight contest, Kiwatule boxing Club’s Ebongo Emmy continued with his dominance beating Zikama Sabbath.
Zikama put up an impressive first round but however reduced his winning chances by putting his head into the tall Ebongo’s chest, something that showed his tiredness.
This is what brought Ebongo into the game thus capitalizing on his moments to push Zikama to box him in a distance on a couple of occasions.
For Okello Ronald from Gulu BC, he left the Arena in disbelief after his fight went into review only for his opponent with UPDF’s Mukuye Harold to clinch it 4:3 split in the Elite 75Kgs.
Earlier on Northern Uganda’s finest in the Women category Ayike Arafah from Arua BC won her bout 5:0 unanimous against Laker Sarah of Gulu BC in the Elite 60Kgs.
Perfect Gideon (KCCA BC) also managed a 4:1 split win against Luo Emmanuel (KCCA BC) in the Youth 57kgs just like Lukanga’s Kakande Bruno who won 5:0 unanimous against Demire Ashraf of Lubya BC in the Youth 48kgs.
In a special contest, Sendyowa Kevin of Kololo Boxing Club was disqualified only to send Ssekyanzi Charles of Lukanga BC into celebrations.
Ssekyanzi’s team mate Kasozi Patrick too won his special contest bout after Referee Stopped Contest in round 3 against Kirinya Isaac of Kiwatule Boxing Club.
To wind up a day of of boxing action, new culture was brought to life when the Best Fan of Uganda Boxing champions league week 5 was been identified thus winning free entry to all remaining fight nights till 26th Dec 2024.
The competition will return in week 7 on Saturday 17th August with a number of bout headlined by Nerrick Tumusiime facing Mawanda Depark in a Light middle contest at Club Obligato.
