Sierra Leone U19 52/3 beat Rwanda U19 51 all out by 7 wickets
Botswana U19 149 all out beat Malawi U19 88 all out by 61 runs
On the second matchday of the Men’s Under-19 World Cup Qualifiers in Tanzania, Sierra Leone pulled off a win against Rwanda in a low-scoring thriller.
After winning the toss, Sierra Leone elected to field first, bowling out Rwanda for a mere 51 runs in just 19 overs.
Jean Claude Imanishimwe was the only Rwandan batsman to show some resistance, scoring 19 off 36 balls, with little support from his teammates.
Sierra Leone’s bowling attack was spearheaded by George Sesay, who took 4 wickets, with strong support from Mohammed Turay (3 wickets) and James Bangura (2 wickets).
Despite a valiant effort from Rwandan captain Rukundo Confiance, who claimed 3 wickets, Sierra Leone’s captain Raymond Coker guided his team to victory with an unbeaten 20, sealing a 7-wicket win.
The loss was a setback for Rwanda U19, who had shown signs of improvement with preparations that included a tour to Uganda, a new Provincial league, and participation in tournaments against international teams like the MCC.
They will need to quickly regroup as they prepare to face Botswana, who won their opening game against Malawi.
Meanwhile, Sierra Leone, looking to bounce back after being relegated from Division One last year, will aim to maintain their winning momentum against Malawi in their next match on Monday.
In another Group A match, Botswana defeated their South African neighbors, Malawi, by 61 runs.
After choosing to bat first, Botswana posted 149 all out in 47.5 overs, with Ayush Harith contributing 32 runs and an additional 43 extras from Malawi’s bowling.
In response, Malawi struggled and were bowled out for 88 in 23.5 overs, with Aryan Abin Pattamana taking five wickets for Botswana.
Looking ahead, tomorrow Nigeria will face Mozambique as both teams seek their first win, while Ghana will clash with hosts Tanzania, with both teams aiming to continue their unbeaten run in the tournament.
