Uganda’s national boxing team, the Bombers, made a strong start to their 2026 Commonwealth Games campaign after team captain Batte Nuhu secured a commanding victory over Nigeria’s Abdulwahab Abdulramon to advance to the round of 16.

Making his Commonwealth Games debut, Batte delivered a composed and confident performance, defeating the experienced Nigerian by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the men’s round of 32 contest. The Ugandan captain impressed all five judges, who scored the bout 29-26, 28-27, 29-26, 28-27, and 29-26 in his favor.
The victory was hard-earned after Batte weathered an early scare in the opening round before taking control of the contest. Using his superior reach, sharp movement and relentless aggression, the Ugandan captain dictated the pace of the fight and consistently landed clean scoring punches.

His tactical approach paid dividends as he won the remaining rounds on all five judges’ scorecards, sealing a convincing victory that keeps both his medal ambitions and Uganda’s hopes alive in the boxing competition.
Batte’s impressive performance provides an important confidence boost for the rest of the Bombers squad, many of whom are yet to make their Commonwealth Games appearances.
Uganda’s campaign continues on Saturday with two more Bombers set to enter the ring. Light heavyweight Alfred Ojok will face Anitelea Launiu of Niue, while Ibrahim Khemis takes on Albert Ngulube of Zambia as the team looks to build on its winning start in Glasgow.
