Uganda will host it’s 2022 FIFA world cup Qualifier games at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
This was confirmed after the Confederation of African Football ( CAF) approved the Stadium on Monday evening as one of the Stadium that can host World Cup games in Africa.
Uganda was seeking to find alternatives in Tanzania after the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole was deemed unfit to host World Cup games while also Hon. Hamson Obua a few weeks ago stated that Kitende wasn’t for to host FIFA International Matches because of the poor road network leading to the Stadium.
The Cranes played their last two 2021 AFCON Qualifiers against South Sudan and Burkina Faso at Kitende after Namboole wasn’t fit to host games as it was turned into a COVID-19 treatment center.
Uganda are pitted in Group E with Mali, Rwanda and Kenya and their attempt to reach their first world cup finals will behind t the Nyayo International Stadium against Kenya on June 8th.
Their first home will be against Mali on June 12th and it’s expected to be played in Kitende.
