Ten-year-old Aya Ofleh Adams produced one of the standout performances of the 11th Uganda Aquatics National Swimming Championships after winning seven gold medals and setting five new championship records at KISU.

Representing Blue Whales Aquatic Venture, Aya dominated the Girls 10 & Under category throughout the four-day competition, establishing herself as one of the country’s brightest young swimming talents.

Her remarkable medal haul came in the 50m and 100m backstroke, 50m and 100m butterfly, 50m and 100m freestyle, as well as the demanding 100m individual medley, where swimmers compete in all four strokes in a single race.

Aya’s dominance was matched by record-breaking performances, as she rewrote the championship record books in five events:

  • 50m Butterfly – 33.39 seconds
  • 100m Butterfly – 1:21.02
  • 50m Backstroke – 35.35
  • 100m Backstroke – 1:20.72
  • 100m Individual Medley – 1:19.73

Her outstanding displays earned praise from commentators, with one describing her as the leading swimmer in her age group this season.

Beyond her success in the pool, Aya’s achievements carry even greater significance. She is Somalia’s first female national swimmer, making her rise an inspiring milestone for young athletes across the Horn of Africa and beyond.

Her record-breaking performances at the Uganda Aquatics National Swimming Championships not only showcased exceptional talent but also highlighted the emergence of a young athlete poised for an exciting future in the sport.
