Having lost to Kenya in their opener, Uganda just did enough on Wednesday to keep their hopes of securing a slot to the 2023 AfroBasket alive.

Jannon Ottoo was once again impressive for Gazelles as she led the way with a double-double of 27 points and 14 rebounds. Hope Akello, who played the most of the second half in foul trouble contributed 14 points and 11 rebounds while Brenda Ekone had 13 points and six rebounds.

Egypt, who nearly produced a late charge to win the game were led by Raneen Elgedawy and Nadine Mohammad who posted 22 points and 17 points respectively.

Having secured a famous victory over Egypt, Uganda will return to action on Thursday night against South Sudan. South Sudan recorded it’s first ever victory in Women’s competitive basketball on Tuesday after defeating Rwanda 54-40.

If Uganda can see off their neighbors, they will secure a slot in the final of the tournament, which will be played on Sunday.
