The Uganda Silverbacks have unveiled the core of their squad ahead of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 African Qualifiers, confirming 11 players as they prepare for the opening qualification window in Alexandria. One final slot remains pending due to documentation clearance, but team manager Albert Ahabwe says the full roster will be finalized before departure for the training camp.
Headlining the squad is American-born guard Nike Sibande Dejur, who fills Uganda’s naturalised player position. The guard currently features for Niners Chemnitz in Germany’s Basketball Bundesliga and the EuroCup Basketball, bringing top-level European experience to a side that blends youth with continuity.
The confirmed squad includes Fayed Baale, Joel Kayiira, Titus Lual Odeke, Deng Geu, Jonathan Komagum, Peter Obleng, Robinson Opong Odoch, Tejan Joel Rugette, Nike Sibande Dejur, Edgar Munaaba, and Naseef Lubowa. Home-based contributors such as Baale, Kayiira, Odeke, Obleng, and Munaaba provide a strong domestic core.
Uganda has been drawn in Group D alongside Mali, Angola, and Egypt, with the first round hosted in Alexandria. Sixteen African nations are competing for five tickets to Doha, Qatar, for the 2027 World Cup, with results carrying over between qualification rounds making every game crucial to the Silverbacks’ ambitions of returning to the global stage.
The technical bench is led by head coach Goran Lojo, assisted by Mandy Juruni, Secerovic Armin (second assistant/video analyst), and Andrew Tendo.
