Yasser Mugerwa: prodigy returns, joins KCCA

Former Victoria University and URA midfielder Yassar Mugerwa has finally returned to the Uganda Premier League after five years of continental feats and joined thirteen-time champions, KCCA FC.

Mugerwa joins the Kasasiro Boys as a free agent and has put to paper on a two-year employment contract.

He becomes the third player to sign for the Lugogo based club during this window following the capture of Brian Majwega and Emmanuel Wasswa who were finalised earlier this week from URA FC and SC Villa respectively.

Yasser Mugerwa started off his career at Super Cubs before joining Nkumba University for the University Football League, before progressing to the FUFA Big League with the same club.

When the team was sold off to become The Saints, Mugerwa was shipped off to Victoria University from where he later switched to URA FC. He later joined South African Giants Orlando Pirates in 2015 on a three-year contract.

After one year at the Soweto big guns, Mugerwa was forced out of the club, moving on to Ethiopia where he played for four clubs over the 5 years he has spent in the horn of Africa Nation including; St.George, Fasil Kenema Sehul Shire FC and Sidama Buna FC.

Mugerwa is capped 13 times for the Ugandan national team, the Cranes since making his debut in 2013 where he featured for only three minutes against Rwanda in a friendly game on November 16th at the Nelson Mandella National Stadium.

He will be meeting up with KCCA FC’s new manager, Morley Byekwaso, for the second time in his career having worked with the former Simba manager at Victoria University.

He joins the list of super talented players to return to the Uganda Premier League after Tony Mawejje among others.
