Sammy Ssebaduka struck at the death as KCCA came from behind to beat Lugazi 2-1 at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, on Wednesday and stretch their Uganda Premier League winning run to four matches.

The Kasasiro Boys appeared headed for a share of the spoils after substitute Charles Lwanga cancelled out Cromwell Rwothomio’s opener, but Ssebaduka had the final say with a dramatic late header.

KCCA started on the front foot and threatened as early as the third minute when Emmanuel Anyama forced Lugazi goalkeeper Igama Batali into a sharp save from close range.

Brian Ssenyondo’s side continued to push for an opener, with Herbert Achayi delivering a dangerous free-kick into the area after Anyama had been fouled just outside the box. Fillbert Obenchan met the delivery but sent his effort over.

Another opportunity arrived shortly before halftime when Ssebaduka delivered from the right for Anyama, whose glancing header flashed across goal as the two sides went into the break level.

Lugazi punished KCCA for those missed opportunities in the 56th minute. Rwothomio rose highest to meet a corner and headed beyond goalkeeper Mugolofa to hand the visitors a surprise lead.

Ssenyondo responded seven minutes later by turning to his bench, introducing Charles Lwanga and Ibrahim Kasule for Anyama and Saidi Mayanja.

The changes quickly paid off. Kasule delivered from a corner in the 67th minute and Lwanga connected with a header to beat Batali and restore parity.

With the game seemingly drifting towards a draw, KCCA continued searching for a winner and made further changes late on, with Shafik Kwikiriza and teenager Alfred Ssebunya joining the action.

Kwikiriza would eventually play a crucial role in deciding the contest. The substitute burst down the left in the final minute of regulation time before delivering into the area, where Ssebaduka rose to head home and spark wild celebrations around Lugogo.

The late strike completed KCCA’s comeback and secured a fourth consecutive league victory for Ssenyondo’s side.

The Kasasiro Boys will now turn their attention to another tricky assignment when they travel to Kamwenge to face Mbarara City on Saturday, October 31, looking to make it five wins on the bounce.
