KCCA FC continued their impressive run in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League with a 3-1 victory over Mbarara City FC at Rwamwanja Stadium in Kamwenge on Saturday, extending their winning streak to five consecutive matches.
The Kasasiro Boys made a bright start and took the lead in the 12th minute through Ivan Ahimbisibwe, who converted from the penalty spot after Saidi Mayanja was brought down inside the box by Gabriel Eragu.
Mbarara responded in the 28th minute when Abdul Bironse set up Ronald Edwok, who finished from close range to bring the hosts level.
However, KCCA restored their advantage three minutes before half-time. Fillbert Obenchan’s long throw caused problems in the Mbarara defence, allowing Sammy Ssebaduka to rise above his markers and head home for a 2-1 lead.
KCCA went into the break with the advantage and continued to push for another goal after the restart.
Their opportunity to extend the lead came in the 70th minute when Reagan Matege fouled Ssebaduka inside the penalty area. Ibrahim Kasule stepped up to take the resulting spot-kick, but Mbarara goalkeeper Bashir Ssekagya guessed correctly to make the save.
The hosts’ relief was short-lived, however, as KCCA capitalised on the resulting corner. Herbert Achayi delivered into the area, and Charles Lwanga rose highest to head home in the 72nd minute, making it 3-1.
KCCA managed the closing stages comfortably, with late substitutions helping them see out the contest and secure another important victory.
Ssebaduka, who scored KCCA’s second goal and won the penalty that led to their third, was named Man of the Match for an influential performance.
The victory takes KCCA’s winning run to five matches following earlier successes against Ntugasaze, URA, Lugazi and their other recent league opponents, keeping them firmly in the title conversation.
The Kampala side will return to MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, on Wednesday, November 4, when they host Maroons FC as they seek to maintain their winning momentum.
