The Uganda National Rugby Cranes Sevens team has been pitted in Pool C in the upcoming World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series in Chile.

They have been pitted alongside Germany, Uruguay and Lithuania.

This year’s World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series will be a standalone combined event and will take place between 12th and 14th August 2022 at the Estadio Santa Laura in Santiago, Chile.

Uganda will play against all three opponents in it’s pool and the top two teams from the pool will progress through to the knockout stages, culminating in the final with the winner booking their promotion to the HSBC World Rugby Seven Series.

Uganda finished seventh at the inaugural World Rugby Seven Challenger Series that were held in Chile and Uruguay in 2020.

Japan, as the top-placed team on the standings after the two completed events, was awarded the Challenger Series title and got promoted to the World Rugby Sevens Series as a core team for the 2020–21 season.

It’s also worthy noting that the Ugandan Sevens team will participate at upcoming Commonwealth games in Birmingham that start at the end of this month.
