Excitement is steadily building as the second edition of the Waterfalls Women’s T20 Elite League prepares to bowl off from January 27 to February 1, 2026, at the historic Lugogo Cricket Oval.

The return of elite women’s cricket to Lugogo comes after a lengthy break, making this tournament a highly anticipated highlight for players and fans alike.

After missing the 2024 and 2025 seasons, the league has been revived by Cricket Uganda’s High-Performance Department as part of a broader strategy to strengthen the women’s game.

The competition is designed to blend senior national team players with emerging Under-19 talent, providing valuable match exposure ahead of a demanding 2026 cricket calendar.

This year’s edition features three competitive sides: Itanda Kayakers, Karuma Rapids, and Bujjagali Rafters.

Absent from the lineup are the Sipi Trekkers, champions of the inaugural 2023 season, who will not defend their title in this second instalment.

The announced squads highlight the depth of talent across the country, with experienced players drawn from various regions.

Leadership will be a major focus, as former title-winning captain Janet Mbabazi returns to the league, this time leading the Itanda Kayakers.

Stephanie Nampiina has been named captain of the Bujjagali Rafters, while Proscovia Alako will take charge of the Karuma Rapids.

The teams will also benefit from strong coaching support.

Karuma Rapids will be guided by seasoned coach Ivan Kakande, Itanda Kayakers by Aaron Kusasira, and Bujjagali Rafters by Jonathan Sebanja, ensuring a competitive and well-balanced tournament.

The opening day is set to deliver immediate action, with Bujjagali Rafters facing a challenging double-header against Itanda Kayakers in the morning and Karuma Rapids later in the afternoon.

Morning matches begin at 10:00 AM, with afternoon games scheduled for 2:00 PM.

Each team will face the others three times, with the top two advancing to the final on February 1 at 2:00 PM.

With anticipation at its peak, the league is poised to deliver thrilling cricket and further elevate women’s cricket in Uganda.
