Uganda Senior Women National Football team, the Crested Cranes were wasteful as they suffered a 2-0 loss to Senegal in their opening game of the 2022 Women African Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The Crested Cranes failed to convert all the clear chances they got upfront and defended poorly to suffer a painful loss.

Ndeye Awa Diakhate and Nguenar Ndiaye got the two goals for Senegal on the day.

Uganda started off the game on a bright note, dominating most of the proceedings but it was Senegal who broke the game’s deadlock after Aisha Nantogo bought down Hapsatou Diallo in the area.

Diakhate stepped and slotted the ball past Ruth Aturo for Senegal first with five minutes to the break.

But immediately after restart on the other end, Fauzila Najjemba got a brilliant chance to put the Crested Cranes level when he was set through by Viola Nambi, but the youngster failed to get his effort past the Senegal goalkeeper Tenning Sene.

Despite having dominated alot of possession, the Crested Cranes went into the break trailing by a goal to nil.

At the restart, Crested Cranes head coach George Lutalo made a surprise double introduction in bringing on Phionah Nabbumba and Fazila Ikwaput for Hassifa Nassuna and Viola Nambi respectively.

Nabbumba almost made instant impact, but her long range effort rattled then.

After that, Senegal got their second following poor play by Yudaya Nakayenze who made a blind pass and Ndiaye capitalized as she run with ball and rounded off Aturo to score into an empty net.

The goal was first ruled out for offside by the linesman but VAR intervened for the goal to be awarded.

Ikwaput had two brilliant chances to pull atleast a one back forgot Uganda but she squraded both of them after being sent through twice by Sandra Nabweteme.

2-0 it ended and Uganda lost its first match on their first return to the Women AFCON since 2000.

With the loss, Uganda are routed at the bottom of group A and will play hosts Morocco next on Tuesday.

For Senegal, they go top of the log and will play Burkina Faso next.
