SC Volcanoes, also known as Mutolere SC, were officially crowned Western Region League champions following a commanding 4–0 victory over Rwampara Bulls at Kinoni Playground in Rwampara District.

The emphatic victory saw Volcanoes extend their lead at the top of the table to 45 points with an outstanding 39-goal tally, confirming their status as champions with three fixtures still left to play this season.

The title race was mathematically settled after second-placed Six O’Clock FC were held to a goalless draw by Makenke Barracks FC earlier in the day at Makenke Barracks Playground. The result left Six O’Clock on 33 points, creating a 12-point gap between them and Volcanoes — an advantage that cannot be overturned with only three games remaining.

Delayed Kickoff But Fast Start

The highly anticipated encounter experienced a delayed kickoff after Volcanoes arrived at the venue at 3:08 PM, while the hosts arrived later at 4:15 PM. The match eventually kicked off at 4:48 PM.

Despite the delay, both sides started brightly, exchanging composed passes and showing attacking intent in the opening minutes.

However, Volcanoes quickly asserted their dominance in the 9th minute. Derrick Ikooza, wearing shirt number 6, combined effectively with Ndawura, whose intelligent movement and delivery into the box found midfielder Fiat (shirt number 4), who calmly slotted home to hand Volcanoes an early 1–0 lead.

Ruthless First-Half Display

Rwampara Bulls attempted to respond positively and created several chances through their attacking midfielders, particularly their influential number 10. One effort in the 21st minute forced a crucial save from the Volcanoes goalkeeper, while another dangerous header was expertly dealt with.

But Volcanoes remained clinical.

In the 28th minute, Derrick once again initiated the move with a long pass to Ndawura, who drove into the penalty area before laying off a perfect assist for Julius Lukyamuzi to finish calmly and double the lead to 2–0.

The pressure continued to mount, and just seven minutes later, Ndawura delivered another decisive contribution. His precise cross found Ronaldo (shirt number 7), who powered a smart header into the net to make it 3–0 before halftime.

Captain Mandela Seals Historic Victory

The second half saw Rwampara Bulls push aggressively for a way back into the contest, earning several set pieces and creating attacking opportunities. However, Volcanoes’ defense remained compact and disciplined.

In the 52nd minute, team captain Alex Mandela effectively sealed the victory after converting from a set-piece situation to make it 4–0. Shortly after scoring, Mandela was substituted for Babuji (shirt number 15).

Despite the heavy scoreline, Rwampara Bulls continued fighting until the final whistle, repeatedly testing the Volcanoes goalkeeper but failing to find the breakthrough.

At full time, Volcanoes celebrated a memorable 4–0 victory that secured not only three points but also the Western Region League title and a playoff slot.

Coaches React

Speaking after the match, Bbaale Siraj Ssendyowa, head coach of Rwampara Bulls, admitted his side fell short on the day despite showing determination.

“The league is very competitive, especially at the top. We shall come back stronger in the next fixtures,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Volcanoes head coach Patrick Ochan praised his players for their consistency and dominant performance throughout the campaign.

“Picking up three points, scoring four goals, and keeping a clean sheet is a big milestone for the team. We are now officially champions and have secured a playoff slot,” Ochan said.

He also emphasized the healthy competition within the squad, which he believes will strengthen the team ahead of the playoffs.

Trophy Handover Set for Home Derby

Club president Dr. Martin Mbonye applauded the team’s discipline, consistency, and hard work throughout the season.

He confirmed that, according to FUFA authorities, the official league trophy handover is expected to take place during Volcanoes’ upcoming home derby against Gorilla Highlands SC at Mashaka Playground on 9th May.

With momentum, confidence, and silverware already secured, SC Volcanoes now turn their attention to the playoffs as they continue their push for greater success.
