StarTimes Uganda Premier League defending champions Vipers have announced Richard Matovu as their third new addition this window.

The left-back joins the Venoms as a free agent after having seen off his contract at Arua Hill at the end of last season.

He has now put pen to paper on a two-year employment contract that will run out in July, 2025.

“I am very excited and can’t wait to work with the group,” Matovu said after his unveiling on Tuesday.

“Things didn’t pan out as I would have loved and when Vipers came calling, it was a no brainer for me to move. I am happy the deal got done.”

“I am buzzing to be here and can’t wait to get going. It is a beautiful challenge that I am delighted to be a part of. I hope I can steer the club to more glory.”

Across two seasons at Arua Hill, Matovu has featured in 47 Uganda Premier League game and has been an integral member of the squad.

Last season, he featured in 25 league game and guided Arua Hill to an incredible fourth finish on the log.

Before playing for Arua Hill, Matovu previously played for Uganda Premier League sides Kyetume FC and BUL FC.

The 24-year old joins the Venoms as a direct replacement for Disan Galiwango, who left the club at the end of last season.

He also becomes Vipers third addition this window after David Bagoole and Giancarlo Lopez Rodriguez.

To secure a starting spot in the Vipers team, he will have to compete with Isa Mubiru, who had a superb first year at the club.
