URA FC 3-1 Vipers SC
URA has recovered from a horrible defeat to Busoga United on Tuesday by freezing Vipers SC title hopes in a 3-1 win at their fortress the Arena of Visions in Matchday 23 of the Startimes Uganda Premier League
URA could have gone upfront in the 2nd minute but Benjamin Njakojo headed wide off Shafic Kajimu’s corner kick with the goal at his mercy
Vipers also had their chance to go upfront in the 4th minute but Karim Watambala’s header hit the crossbar from Paul Mucureezi’s corner to deny the Venoms the chance to go ahead.
Said Kyeyune put the hosts into an early lead in the 14th minute after receiving the ball from Micheal Birunji to shoot into the bottom corner.
URA extended their lead four minutes later after Daniel Isiagi tapped in a low cross from Joackim Ojera after receiving a blind pass from Siraje Ssentamu
Fred Kajoba made a quick change bringing on leftback Aziz Kayondo and withdrawing Rahmat Ssenfuka in the 19th minute.
Paul Mucureezi had a chance to pull one back for the Venoms in the 32nd minute but URA FC custodian Aliozi Nafian punched the ball over the bar.
The home team also made a quick change withdrawing Ivan Sserubiri for a new fresh legs in Julius Mutyaba in the 34th minute.
URA could have gone to the break with three goals but Micheal Birunji’s curled shot was waved over the bar by Fabian Mutombora
Vipers came back a changed side with Paul Mucureezi shooting wide and later his header saved by Aliozi Nafian in the 47th minute
Fahad Bayo pulled a goal back for the venoms, scoring from the spot kick in the 50th minute after Benjamin Njakojo commited a foul on Milton Karisa inside the box
Cromwell Rwothomio could have extended URA’s lead in the 52nd minute but his header off Brian Majwega’s free kick hit the cross bar
Allan Kayiwa could have levelled matters for the Vistors after receiving a through ball from Aziz Kayondo but Aliozi Nafian was equal to the shot.
Fabian Mutombora pulled out a heroic save to deny URA FC the third goal after saving Cromwell Rwothomio’s penalty in the 69th minute after Pual Willa handled the ball inside the box.
Cromwell Rwothomio extended URA’s lead to 3-1 after heading in Brian Majwega’s free kick in the 73rd minute.
The home team continued to frustrate the vistors to the end of the game
Vipers stay atop of the SUPL log on 50 points but their lead is at risk of being trimmed to 2 points by KCCA who play Express on Saturday 22nd,February.
