Villa did not need a second chance. Mpande’s first-half header proved the difference in a game where Villa showed enough grit to protect their slender advantage and walk away with maximum points.
The breakthrough came after Frank Ssebuufu beat his marker to Ibrahim Kasinde’s inviting cross before Mpande finished the job with a firm header.
URA will rue the goal. The hosts had lost possession cheaply, allowing Aliro the space to deliver the ball that eventually exposed their defence.
URA pushed for a response before the interval but could not find the finish. Nelson Ssenkatuka headed Aliro’s cross over the bar, while Norman Namanya watched his searching delivery crash against the woodwork.
Villa remained dangerous after the restart. Patrick Jonah Kakande came close to doubling the lead, but his effort rolled narrowly wide. Andrew Otim then tried to catch goalkeeper Crispus Kusiima with a clever lob, only to miss the target.
URA threw bodies forward in search of salvation, but Villa had David Lukwago to thank for keeping them out. The goalkeeper produced a superb one-handed save to deny Godfrey Ssekibengo and keep Villa in front.
From there, Villa dug in. The final whistle confirmed three valuable points and lifted Villa to four points from two matches after their 1-1 draw with Kitara on opening day.
URA, meanwhile, remain on three points after their 2-1 victory over Maroons in their opener, when Dissan Galiwango and Abraham Tusubira found the net.
