Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) played against Kampala University in Group E of the Pepsi  UFL at the UMU play ground in Nkozi with a 2-0 margin in favour of UMU as the game ended prematurely.

With a tight race in group E Moses Kakooza and Sunny Kaija were the players on target for UMU’s two goals in the 27th and 88th minutes respectively, but the game didn’t end because the home fans ran onto the pitch in disguise of celebrating their goal but ended up attacking with intention to harm the opposing players and fans.

Many Kampala University players suffered injuries including stabbings inflicted on left back in Arafat Kakonge after which incident he was rushed to the hospital for first aid. Secutiry personnel were attacked as well with one officer registered injured by the student.

With all this chaos caused by the home fans, KU’s head coach Vicent Tumusiime aka “Titi Camara” says they are not playing any more games without assurance of their safety.

“We are not going play any other team when we are not sure of the safety of our lives because these are students they have to be protected at whatever cost.”

“Many of our fans were injured and some players were admitted to hospitals, for promotion of fair play that’s not football.”

The Touchline Sports  further contacted Red Rhino boss Obal Atubo to highlight on the incidents that happened in the match and he said, they are still waiting for the referee’s report before acting.

“We are still waiting for the referee’s report and the match commissioner’s report of the incidents that happened and we shall act accordingly.”

The University Football League has been so strict and intolerant to hooliganism since inception and recent history indicates that Makerere University was the first University to test the wrath of the organisers committee when they were banned after they from taking part in the competition for violence that happened at Busitema University.

According to Chimp Reports in 2017, Makerere University had qualified for the knockout stage of he University Football League, but were suspended for the remainder of that running season and the following season, 2018.

Makerere had topped Group A and were meant to play Gulu University at the quarter finals, but, the Northern Uganda based institution was instead given a bye through to the Semis.

If the referees report pins Uganda Martyrs University in this case, similar sanctions are expected and there is fear it could worse, considering the level of bodily harm and criminal offense committed by the home fans.

Kampala University will travel to Ndejje to face Ndejje University in their next match while UMU edged Gulu University 2-0 in their previously concluded match.
