Ugandan duo nominated in CAF Awards


Uganda Crested Cranes duo Lady Doves forward Fazila Ikwaput and Fauzia Najjemba nominated for the Conderatiom of African Football Awards

According to the shortlists, Ikwaput was nominated for the CAF African Women Footballer of the year while Najjemba was nominated for the CAF Young Player of the Year (Women).

Ikwaput finished as joint top scorer with Hasifah Nassuna in the 2022 FUFA Women super league with 16 goals although the Lady Doves failed to replicate the form of the yester-season that witnessed them win the FUFA Women’s Super league and with the striker as MVP.

The Lady Doves striker also helped the club finish third in the inaugural CECAFA Regional qualifiers with four(4) goals and is the first Ugandan female footballer to earn this nomination on the 30 player shortlist.

Away all that, a month ago Ikwaput too was the MVP of the 2022 CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship, Njeru scoring 6 goals just 2 short of top scorer Opa Clement, Twiga Stars.

On the other hand, U-20 starlet Najjemba lit her candle at the 2022 CECAFA U20 Women’s Championship, Njeru where she finished as top scorer with 11 goals in six(6) games.

The Former Kampala Queens star moved to BIIK Shymkent( Club where Ikwaput has played before) in Kazakhstan at the start of where she has already scored 9 goals and assisted six(6) winning the Kazakhstan Cup.
