Uganda Badminton Association decided to host this tournament in preparation of the 2028 Para-Olympics in Los Angeles, California USA.

For other athletes from other countries, some qualified for the 2024 Para-Olympics are taking this tournament as a build up to the main event in France.

However coming into this tournament, some these athletes have had different challenges prior to the competition Standing Lower three (SL3) player from team Uganda, Mary Juliet Namunoga is not an exception;

“We find challenges and this time it has been transport and food” she said

Adding that “Besides that i however expect to play well, gather points and even improve on my performance and be a good player of Uganda.” Namunoga concluded

Speaking to another team Uganda athlete, Ali Kibirango of the wheel chair 2, he too singled out the transport issue;

“We were about to give a walk over this morning! Transport for us the disabled in Uganda is very expensive for example: Nazziwa Sarah stays in Matugga, but a Boda to bring her to Lugogo will always ask for 30,000/-, ” said Kibirango [while shaking his head]

“This kind of money we don’t have, so I request the companies out there to come and give us a hand such that we can also compete favorably with those international players.” Ali Kibirango concluded

With group stage action on the roll at the moment, the tournament is set to climax on Sunday 7th, July 2024 after knockouts which are expected to start on Thursday.
