Uganda Cranes has been pitted in Group K alongside South Africa, Congo and South Sudan in the TotalEnergues Africa Cup of Nations ( AFCON) 2025 group stage qualifiers.

The 48 teams were drawn on Thursday afternoon during a ceremony held in Johannesburg, South Africa. The Cranes who missed out on AFCON 2023 will be looking forward to making amends when the 2025 edition of the qualifiers kick-off late in September this year.

The draw conducted by the CAF competitions director Samson Adamu and assisted by former Morocco players Marouane Chamakh and Ivory Coast head coach Emerse Fae saw teams divided into 12 groups from A to L.

The best two teams in each group will qualify for the AFCON 2025 to take place in Morocco. Paul Put’s side will have to finish in the first two places in Group K if they hope to secure a slot for the Continental tournament.

According to CAF, all the qualifier games will be played between September and November to decide on who will make it to the final tournament set to be played between 21 December 2025 and 18 January 2026 in Morocco.

Uganda last appeared in AFCON 2019 in Egypt.

Cote d’Ivoire are the reigning AFCON champions after they defeated Nigeria on home soil earlier this year.
