Uganda won by 46 runs

Uganda secured a decisive 46-run victory over hosts Rwanda in a crucial match at IPRC Kigali on Wednesday, finishing atop Group A.

After winning the toss, Rwanda chose to field and made an early impact by dismissing Uganda’s captain in the first over.

However, Uganda quickly regrouped, with Asumin Akurut (15) and Patricia Timong (14) stabilizing the innings after a rocky start.

Malisa Ariokot emerged as a key contributor with a brisk 33 runs off 24 balls, but once she fell, Uganda’s batting faltered.

Only Jane Amongin (15) managed to reach double figures, as Rwanda’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure.

Mugwaneza Grace was particularly effective, claiming 4 wickets for just 14 runs, supported by Uwimana Ruth’s 2 wickets, ultimately bowling Uganda out for 102 in the 20th over.

In response, Rwanda struggled to build partnerships, with their chase never gaining momentum.

Only Niyomuhoza Shakila and Umukudwa Nasira reached double digits, each scoring 10 runs.

Uganda’s bowlers, led by Asumin Akurut, Patricia Timong, and Mary Apolot—who each took 2 wickets—swiftly dismantled Rwanda’s batting lineup, bowling them out for just 56 runs.

Asumin Akurut was named Player of the Match for her all-around performance.

With this win, Uganda finished the group stage unbeaten and will face second-placed Zimbabwe in the semifinals on Saturday, while Rwanda will compete against Nigeria in the other semifinal on the same day.
