Uganda champion Street Child Cricket World Cup

Team Uganda won the 2nd edition of the Street Child Cricket World Cup on its first time of participation with a 30runs win against Zimbabwe in the final. 

Uganda won the toss and elected to bat scoring 67runs but Zimbabwe’s chase only ended at 37.

This mixed gender tournament is a celebration of street connected young people to champion their fundamental rights. 

This years edition had 19 teams from all over the world and took place in Chennai, India from 23rd to 30th September. The inaugural edition was held 4years ago in London and was won by India.

“Wonderful, a  remarkable moment for the boys and girls.” – Emmanuel Isaneez the coach of team Uganda on this victory.

Uganda cruised past South Africa in the quarterfinals and eliminated Bangladesh in the semis to set themselves for a final with Zimbabwe whom they had defeated in the group stages.

The eight players who represented team Uganda are Agnes Nakakande, Jonathan Nyiiro, Naome Amongin, Ali Balidawa, Aziz Tandua, Malisa Ariokot, Lorna Anyait and Gerald Olipa.
