Uganda Boxing Champions League: Ukasha dominates Mukwaya in Week 3

Bombers Captain Ukasha Matovu dominated Edward Mukwaya to lift the crowd in the Lugogo Indoor Arena on Saturday evening.

Matovu who hails from the COBAP boxing Club managed to humble Kiwatule’s Mukwaya 5-0 by unanimous decision in the final fight of the day.

All this happened in the presence of Makindye division’s mayor Ali Kasirye Mulyanyama who sat next to Uganda Boxing Federation President Moses Muhangi.

Ukasha Lee as his famously known by his die hard fans boxed off the Welter weight Contest with absolute power and intent to Knock out the National Open sliver medalist Mukwaya.

However, it did not go as planned for him as Mukwaya tried so hard to fight back to stay in contest to keep his word as per the weigh ins on Friday dragging on strongly till the fifth round.

In between the second and fourth round, Ukasha who was not at his best had a couple of lapses where it looked like he was saved after a number of continuous fouls.

Something that was brought to light in the fifth round where Mukwaya did best winning it clear to the crowds observation, based on the increase of silence in Ukasha fans.

Despite his efforts, it was not enough for the judges as the fight was ruled 5-0 by unanimous decision in favour of Matovu Ukasha.

After the game, a unsettled and excitement filled Ukasha attributed his win to Allah; “I am so grateful to the most high ” he repeated

Adding that; “I would like to thank my fans for coming and everyone who supported me all the way”

In another bout prior to the main fight, Lukanga’s Owen Kibira lightened up the Arena after knocking down Serugo Bashir from Zebra Boxing Club seconds into the first round.

This was Kibira’s first fight in the Uganda Boxing Champions League season as a boxer in the Light Middle weight Elite 71Kgs having played the previous edition in the Welter 67Kgs category.

Despite not winning the National Open Gold after losing to Nerrick Tumusiime, Kibira’s determination was on a high as he showed in his fight against Serugo.

In the same weight, East Coast’s Mawanda Depark who had a lovely ring entrance led by Vian Music beat his opponent Mutaasa Ashraf of Mutajjazi (led to the ring by Syda MC) by a 5:0 unanimous decision.

With season three(3) riding on, we are set to have a number of exciting match ups in this Lightweight Elite 71Kgs alongside other boxers like Broline Kimbugwe and National Open Gold medalists Nerrick Tumusiime.

Heavy weight beasts also took centre stage as   an improved Aziz Ringo of Kololo won the bout by a 3-2 split result against Baraka James.

In the boys Juniors earlier, Somalia community came together to offer their support to Kololo’s Mutwalib Mahab who didn’t disappoint as he edged Mudathir Uthuman from Namugoona in a Pin Weight 46Kgs contest.

Talking to an excited Mutwalib Mahad who was standing next a proud mother filled of emotion, he came out to say that;

In the Ladies Category, Bronze medalist in the Mandela Cup Fatuma Nabikolo from Kololo Boxing Club was very disappointed after she lost her fight to Sauda Muhammed of Police in a Bantamweight 54Kgs.

Muhammed won the fight after a long review that led to a 4-3 split ruling by the judges only to send the Bomber into disbelief.

In a minimum 48Kgs Youth Ladies Contest earlier, Lukanga’s Swalla Halima was so decisive and accurate in her punching on the day, boxing Kemisa Hamza of Mutajjazi.

The competition’s week Four will return on Saturday 6th July 2024 at Club Obligato.
