Tanzania delivered an outstanding performance at the UDSM Ground, securing a place in the semi-finals with a resounding victory over Ghana.
Opting to bat first, Tanzania posted a formidable 215 runs in 35.4 overs, led by Karim Kiseto’s explosive 91 off 82 balls and a solid 47 from Dylan Thakrar.
Despite a strong showing from Ghana’s bowlers, including Lee Nyarko’s 4-60 and David Ateak’s 3-21, Tanzania proved too strong.
In response, Ghana’s batting lineup collapsed under pressure.
Tanzania’s bowlers, spearheaded by Khalidy Amiri’s early breakthroughs, dismantled the opposition.
Amiri took three wickets in the 5th over, reducing Ghana to 7-5.
Despite a brief resistance from Aariz Sood and Bernard Neequaye, Ghana was bowled out for just 53 runs in 16.3 overs.
Laksh Bakrania and Khalidy Juma shared the spoils with 4-11 and 4-18, respectively.
This victory not only secured Tanzania’s semi-final berth but also highlighted Kiseto as the tournament’s leading run-scorer.
Kiseto, awarded Player of the Match, expressed gratitude to his team and their spirit, stating, “The camaraderie in the team is good, and that’s why results are showing.
I am disappointed not to convert this inning into a century, but the most important thing is the team won.”
Ghana’s captain and leading wicket-taker of the tournament, Lee Nyarko, acknowledged their poor performance and looked forward to the next game, saying, “Today we didn’t play good cricket, but we will show it in the next game.”
Nigeria Sets Tournament Record with Massive Total Against Mozambique
At the Gymkhana Ground, Nigeria set a new tournament record, scoring 362/8 in 50 overs against Mozambique.
Hossana Omokhobio led the charge with 69 runs, while Peculiar Egamasi and Gafar Kareem added valuable runs.
Despite efforts from Mozambique’s bowlers, with Eugenio Azine and Charles Mbebe taking 3-58 and 2-58, respectively, Nigeria dominated the match.
Mozambique’s response was lackluster, managing only 48 runs in 18.5 overs.
Antonio Laice, the only player to reach double digits with 20 runs, stood out as Nigeria’s Gafar Kareem and O. Isiyaku tore through their lineup, taking 3-10 and 3-16, respectively.
Nigeria’s massive 314-run victory sets them up confidently for their next encounter against Ghana.
Kareem, named Player of the Match, praised the team’s strategy, “The plan to bat first was good as it was a flat wicket and there was a good chance of scoring big runs.
We have a crucial game coming up against Ghana, and we aim to carry this momentum forward.”
