A Khassim Murungi win climaxed the Uganda Boxing Champions League week eight at Club Obligato on Saturday.
The editon was graced by both the Uganda Boxing Federation President, Moses Muhangi and elected Uganda Netball Federation President, Sarah Babirye Kityo.
This time round, the fights happened with an intention of picking who will grab a ticket to Senegal, Dakar for the Olympics.
Into the fights, Khassim Murungi featherweight 57kgz contest as he beat 2022 Africa Elite Boxing Championship medalist 4-1 to stay on the Bombers team.
The fight was meant to happen earlier to chose who had to go to the 2023 Africa Elite Boxing Championship but wasn’t played because Jonah Kyobe reported sick on the day.
After the bout Kyobe said that Murungi was just given the fight;
“He fought well but at the end the day the decision was availed he was given the fight “
The bout before between Isaac Zebra Ssenyange Jr(Mando) and Owen Kibira ended prematurely.
All this happened in the first round after the doctor decided that the fight shouldn’t continue since Zebra Jr got a deep cut on the head from a head clash between him and his opponent.
Therefore the fight was stopped amidst the fans “Mando! Mando!!” chant during and after the game with eagerness to know the final results of the bout.
Unfortunately the ring announcer named Kibira the winner but after a few minutes the technical team came forward to reverse the decision and award the victory to Isaac Zebra Jr on a 3-2 scoreline by the Judges.
For Uganda Bombers Captain Joshua Tukamuhebwa he beat Jaffer Onen by a 5:0 unanimous decision in an EastCoast light weight battle.
In the heavy weight 92+Kgz category, bronze medalist Solomon Geko was surprised by the University student Zikama Sabath 3-2 split decision just like Jamidali Adam did to beat James Baraka by a 5:0 unanimous decision in the Heavy 92Kgs.
For the Special Edition Fly Weight 51Kgs contest Mawanda Shafick entertained revealers with his antics and boxing styles as he win 5:0 by unanimous decision against Kasozi Frank.
On the ladies side, in the Welter 66Kgs 2023 Bronze Medalist and Ladies Captain Nakalema Emily boxed silver medalist, UPDF’s Erina Namutebi owins 5:0 unanimous decision.
Bombers Feather 54Kgs Ndagire Sharua beat Kansiime Phionah by a 4:1 split while Bombers Bantam 54Kgs Najemba Nadia won against Nabikolo Fatumah 5:0 on unanimous decision.
The winners of this week eight edition are set to represent Uganda at the Dakar Olympics in Senegal.
