Ugandan talisman Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru netted his fifth goal of the season as his side, Wycombe Wanderers rallied from a goal down to defeat Bristol City 2-1 at Adams Park to keep their English Championship survival hopes alive.

With just 20 minutes into the game, Bristol City took the lead when Tyreeq Bakinson, from just outside the box, unleashed a ferocious shot that went into the top left corner to beat Wycombe’s goalie David Stockdale for the game’s opener.

In the 64th minute, Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru levelled matters after he met Anis Mehmeti teasing cross to head in for the equaliser.

Before the goal though, Ikpeazu had a brilliant chance to put his side level but his audacious overhead kick flew over the crossbar.

Wycombe then stole it late when a Bristol defender handled the ball in the forbidden area after Stockdale’s spectacular effort in the dying moments of the game to leave the referee with no choice but to gift the Chairboys a chance from the spot.

Adebayo Akinfenwa stepped up and dispatched his spot-kick into the bottom right corner for his first goal of the season that in turn secured a vital 2-1 win for Wycombe Wanderers.

The results see Wycombe move to 37 points garnered in 43 games and they are now just six points below the relegation line.

For Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru, he takes his goal tally to five goals netted in 28 league games.
