Two second half goals from Brian Aheebwa and Denis Omedi were not enough for Kitara scored collect a win from their home first Preliminary round CAF Confederation Cup game played in Libya.
10 man, Kitara lost 3-2 to Libya’s Al Hilal Benghazi at the Martyrs of Benina stadium after goalkeeper Crispus Kusiima sent off in the 50th minute.
The Hoima side conceded inside two minutes to Muhammad Shaban who headed home a free kick before Talha Rizik doubled the lead for the Libyan club in the 20th minute ending the opening half 2-0.
However with different struggles that were going on the pitch, Coach Brian Ssenyondo made a tactical change at 1-0 pulling off midfielder Marvin Nyanzi for striker Brian Aheebwa.
Despite being 2-0 down, at the second half Eric Muber was brought on for Paddy Muhumuza in midfielder in put things on order, but it all didn’t work as expected.
A few minutes later, Shaban forced an error Kitara shot stopper Chrispus Kusiima into handling the ball outside his area after a brilliant through ball.
After it all the resulted a free kick that hit the woodwork before Shaban rebounded into the net but assistant referee arose his flag to Kitara’s rescue.
With 28 minutes still to play, Aheebwa opened Kitara’s continental account after a mistake between the goalkeeper and defender shortly before captain Elbadry restored their two goal lead.
In the 82nd minute, Omedi brought back another goal to reduce the deficit to one goal to put the scoreline at 2-3.
The Return leg will be played next Friday at the same venue and The Royals of Kitara need at least a 2-0 win to progress.
