Tomorrow at Lugogo Cricket Oval, all eyes will be on Soroti City and Olila Cricket Club as they face off in what promises to be an electrifying final of the Women’s T20 League.
Soroti City, the defending champions, cemented their place in the final with a convincing victory over Wanderers last Saturday at Lugogo Cricket Oval.
The team, led by the formidable Victoria Pearls Captain Janet Mbabazi, showcased their strength with both bat and ball.
Mbabazi’s outstanding bowling figures of 4/9 earned her the Player of the Match accolade, as Soroti City cruised to an 8-wicket win.
This win was a statement of intent from the champions, who are now just one game away from securing back-to-back titles.
Meanwhile, in Jinja, Olila CC proved their mettle with a gritty win against Jinja SS in a low-scoring thriller.
Jinja SS fell short in their run chase, unable to overcome the 13-run deficit, thanks to the stellar performance of left-arm spinner Sarah Akiteng, who took 3/7.
This victory added another feather to Olila’s cap as they remain the only unbeaten team in the UCA Women’s National League this season.
The final will see the two sister clubs, both products of the Soroti Cricket Academy (SCA), battle it out for the coveted T20 title.
Soroti City, with their seasoned squad, will be aiming to defend their crown, while Olila, who last won the title in 2017, are eager to reclaim their former glory.
It’s worth noting that last year’s league was played on a round-robin basis, with Soroti City narrowly edging out Olila by a single point to clinch the title.
Their rivalry has only intensified since then, as evidenced by their most recent encounter, where Soroti City emerged victorious by 7 wickets in a league match at the Soroti Cricket Ground.
Ironically, it was Sarah Akiteng—now a key player for Olila—who starred in that match for Soroti City, taking 3 wickets and being named Player of the Match.
Felix Musana, Chairman of the Soroti Cricket Academy, expressed his pride in seeing both teams reach the final.
“We are delighted to have two of our teams in the finals. On behalf of the SCA board, we are neutral and just want to see a great game. May the best team win. It’s truly a battle of the sisters,”
Musana also welcomed the decision to move the final from Jinja to Lugogo, noting that it presents a fantastic opportunity for fans to come out and support the teams in what promises to be an exciting and entertaining match.
The much-anticipated final will begin at 1 pm at Lugogo Cricket Oval.
As always, Touchline Sports will be on the ground to bring you all the live updates and highlights from this thrilling encounter.
