Ugandan athlete Tarsis Orogot has secured a spot in the men’s 200m semifinals at the ongoing Paris Olympics, winning his heat with a remarkable time of 20:32.
Despite not a good start, Orogot showcased his speed and agility with a powerful finish in the last 100 meters, claiming first place in Heat Two.
Joining Orogot in the semifinals are Mccoy Wanya of the Bahamas and Renan Correa of Brazil, who also qualified from Heat Two.
However, Orogot’s journey ahead will be challenging, as he faces formidable opponents, including Noah Lyles, Letsile Tebogo, Erriyon Knighton, and Kenneth Bednarek.
The semifinals are scheduled for Wednesday, August 7.
Orogot’s achievement marks a significant milestone, as he follows in the footsteps of Davis Kamoga, the last Ugandan sprinter to compete in the Olympics, who won a bronze medal in the 400m at the 1996 Atlanta Games.
