Following his win in the 10,000m finals at the Paris2024 Olympics, Joshua Cheltegei mentioned that this would be his last Olympics as well as track and field event.

However there was still doubt because the 5,000m heats were only five days away.

But it now looks like we just saw the very last of Chetegei on Track according to reknown Athletics journalist Allan Darren Kyeyune.

Who made a post on his X last night saying Joshua Cheltegei has opted not to take part in the 5,000m race at this year’s Olympics which also means that he won’t be able to defend his gold from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

This won’t be the first time we see this happen, beside holding both the 10 and 5km world records, Cheptegei has always made it clear that his favourite race is the 10k, a similar incident from the World Athletics Championships in Budapest last year when he withdrew from the 5,000m race after winning the 10k for a third consecutive time at the event. He will now have full focus on the roads.

For Jacob Kiplimo, he will also not take part citing that his body needed more time to recover as put out by the Uganda Athletics Federation.

Therefore, Oscar Chelimo is set to be the only runner to represent Uganda in the 5000m.
