The Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) has appointed East African cricket legend Steve Tikolo as the new head coach of the Uganda national cricket team on a three-year contract.

Tikolo’s appointment marks his third stint leading the national side, a move that has generated excitement across Uganda’s cricket community. The former Kenya national cricket team captain is widely regarded as one of the greatest cricketers to emerge from East Africa and brings extensive experience both as a player and coach.

During his previous spells with the Cricket Cranes, Tikolo was known for emphasizing discipline, tactical development, and squad depth. His leadership helped introduce new talent into the national setup while fostering a more professional team culture that enabled Uganda to compete more confidently on the international stage.

The Uganda Cricket Association believes Tikolo’s return provides the stability and experience needed as the team continues to build on recent progress. With a three-year mandate, he is expected to focus on strengthening the player pipeline, nurturing young talent, and refining the tactical approach of a squad that has shown increasing promise in international cricket.

“I am not a stranger in Uganda,” Tikolo once remarked during his earlier tenure with the team a familiarity that is expected to be a key advantage as he begins this new chapter with the Cricket Cranes.

His return signals UCA’s commitment to sustained growth and long-term development for Ugandan cricket.
