KCCA FC continued their poor start to the new season as they lost the Kampala derby to Express FC in a rescheduled Uganda Premier League game at the MTN Omondi Stadium Lugogo on Sunday evening.
In a well contested game of three headers ex the Red Eagles beat the Kasisro boys 2-1. Isaac Wagoina’s late winner was the difference at Full time after the teams were tied up one-all.
Initially Derrick Ngoobi had put Express ahead in the 24th minute through a corner by Ismail Kawawulo but six minutes later Shaban Muhammad also headed home for KCCA thanks to some good work by Usama Arafat in the right wing.
In the second half, KCCA through their midfeilder GUI tried to put on a show but just all the KCCA players on the day, his final balls were heading straight to the Express goal keeper Abdul Kimera.
Towards the end of the second half, Express had a couple of chances on the edge of KCCA’s box, two of them falling to former Kasisiro Boy Andrew Kawooya who failed to put them away.
But with four minutes left on the 90, Isaac Waigona at the back post freely headed in the ball from a set piece play to give Express a 2-1 win on away soil.
This means KCCA FC have had their third defeat in the first three of games of the campaign while Express, remain unbeaten after they drew their opener against Mbarara City beating Busoga United and KCCA.
However with their Captain Allan Kayiwa and Loane from their opponent on the day, Emmanuel Wasswa- Ramsey Kawooya, making his first start after his recovery from a hamstring injury.
Kawooya had an impressive display at the heart of the midfield just like his patnership Hussein Ssenoga and Andrew Kawooya alias sergeant.
In their next games, KCCA will pay a courtsey visit to Hoima city to face new league entrants and current log leaders Kitara FC on Friday 20th October while Express FC will welcome Bright stars to Wankulukuku the following day on Saturday.
