Uganda Premier League record champions SC Villa kick started their second-round campaign of the 2020/21 season with a 2-1 victory over MYDA at the King George IV Memorial Stadium, Tororo.
Two first half goals by Derrick Ndahiro and Mohammad Ssenoga were enough to hand SC Villa a relatively good start to their second round .
Amos Kirya netted MYDA’s consolation in the secobd half.
Having drawn their first game of the first round, the Jogoos come into this game seeking for a positive start to the second round and forced an early goal in the 5th minute when Mohammed Ssenonga reacted onto a loose ball to put into an empty net after MYDA goalkeeper Ssekandi Andrew failed to party the ball away following a Derrick Ndahiro cross.
After the goal though , the home side dominated proceedings in the opening half of the game but lacked the final touch to put trouble the Joggos backline despite creating some great goalscoring chances.
But it was the jogoos that looked more lucky to find the back of the net again as Nicholas Kabonge almost found Sc Villa’s second but the Ssekandi made a brilliant save to deny the midfielder’s strong effort in the 30th minute.
Five minutes to the break, the Flying Eagles were gifted a chance to level matters from the spot after Fred Agandu pushed down Amos Kirya in the forbidden area.
Ibra Nsimbe stepped up and but unfortunately missed from the spot, putting his effort above the crossbar.
Just before the break, disaster struck once again for MYDA as they went two goals down following a neaty finish by Derrick Ndahiro following wonderful play by Kabonge.
In the second half, chances were far and between for both sides until in the 77th minute when Amos Kirya pulled a goal back for MYDA after a howler punch by SC Villa goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige.
There was no comeback though as the SC Villa backline stood solid enough to avoid late drama.
SC Villa have now completed a double over MYDA this season , having also defeated the flying eagles 1-0 in bombo cortsey of a late Faizo Kazibwe goal.
with the win today, The Jogoos move to fourth place on the log with 28 points garnered in 16 games.
While MYDA remain 15th with 6 points, Eight points below the relegation line.
