StarTimes UPL: relegation battles as Kyetume takes on MYDA while Busoga battles Kitara

The first round of the 2021/22 StarTimes UPL season will climax with two entertaining fixtures.

It will be the battle of the last four sides on the log as 13th placed Kyetume FC hosts bottom-placed MYDA FC at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru in the early kick-off while Busoga United, who are third from the bottom will also tussle out with Kitara FC on the same ground later on.

Here is our preview for the last two games of the first round on Thursday.

Kyetume FC Vs MYDA FC

Having drawn their last game with Express away from home, the Slaughterers will host bottom-placed MYDA FC seeking the first win since the league resumed in February after the CHAN break.

Meanwhile, their opponents of the day MYDA are still the only winless side left in the league this season, with 3 points in their opening 14 games in Uganda’s top-flight league.

The two sides are separated by 9 points as the Slaughterers are on 12 points while the Flying Eagles are on 3 points from their last 14 games.

Kyetume’s only two wins this season have all come at home, while MYDA has lost all but one game on the road. The Malaba based side has endured defeats to Vipers, KCCA, SC Villa, Busoga United, Bright Stars and BUL and drew to Wakiso Giants in their seven games played away this season.

Last result:

Kyetume drew goalless with Express FC at the Betway Muteesa II Stadium-Wankulukuku for their sixth draw of the season, while MYDA suffered a humiliating 3-0 loss to UPDF at the King George IV Memorial Stadium, Tororo to record their 11th loss of the season in 14 games.

Head to Head:

This will be the first time these two sides meet in the Uganda Premier League history as MYDA was just promoted to the Uganda top-flight this season.

What this could mean

A Victory in the early kick-off of the day would take them up on the log on 15 points as they would surpass Mbarara City who sits 12th on the log with 14 points. But, if MYDA does win, they would potentially surpass Kitara who sit second bottom on the log with 5 points, provided Kitara loses their game.

Busoga United Vs Kitara

In the later kick-off at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru, Busoga United will host Kitara FC in the last game of the final round of the StarTimes UPL.

The Mighty team sits third from the bottom with 11 points, while Kitara is a place below with 5 points garnered in 14 games.

Last result:

Busoga United collected their second win of the season after they wonderfully defeated Wakiso Giants 1-0 away from home courtesy of Sharif Kimbowa’s first goal this season. Kitara narrowly lost to BUL FC 3-0 away from the home at the Kyabazinga Stadium, Bugembe, their 11th loss of the season.

Head to Head:

The two sides have never met in the Uganda Premier league history since Kitara Was recently promoted to Uganda’s top-flight league.

What this could mean

A Busoga United victory would take them out of the relegation provided Kyetume loses as they sit just a point below the Slaughterers who are on 12 points. However, even if Kitara wins, they would stay the second bottom as they are 6 points off Busoga United who occupy the last relegation place on 11 points. A loss for Kitara and a win for MYDA would take the visitors to the bottom place as the flying Eagles would be above them.
