StarTimes UPL: NEC secure comeback over Arua Hill in Lugogo

NEC showcased their resilience in a thrilling encounter against Arua Hill in a StarTimes Uganda Premier League fixture at Philp Omondi Stadium.

Despite falling behind to a goal by Mandela Nelson in the 61st minute, NEC managed to turn the tide of the game.

Brian Kayanja who came from the bench emerged as the hero for NEC, netting the equalizer and later putting his team in the lead with a well-timed goal in the 80th minute, courtesy of Joseph Dhata’s excellent assist.

This resurgence led to a dominating performance by the hosts in the latter stages of the game, securing their much-needed victory.

Ssebaggala Enock’s outstanding performance earned him the Pilsner Man of the Match award, adding to NEC’s celebratory mood after their comeback triumph.

The win elevated NEC to the 7th position in the league standings, accumulating 24 points at the conclusion of the first round.

Meanwhile, at Kabaka Kyabagu, Wakiso Giants caused a stir by defeating KCCA FC 2-1.

Despite KCCA’s recent success against URA FC, Wakiso Giants showcased their prowess, with Kenneth Kimera and Andrew Samson Kigozi securing goals against the KCCA side, who managed to pull one back through Mugume Ashraf’s late free kick.

This victory propelled Wakiso Giants to the 12th position, while KCCA FC found themselves in the 9th spot after the completion of the initial round of games.

Elsewhere, the clash between Bul FC and Mbarara City culminated in a 1-1 draw. Gerald Ogwete’s goal for the hosts was countered by Joseph Akandwanaho’s equalizer for the visitors.

Despite the draw, Bul FC remains at the top of the table with 33 points, maintaining their strong position despite registering their third draw in a season marked by two losses and the rest victories.

Express FC showcased dominance in their 3-0 victory against Gaddafi FC at Wankulukuku Stadium.

With four consecutive wins, Express FC now occupies the 6th position in the league standings with 24 points from 15 games, firmly establishing themselves among the top 10 teams.

However, the season has been challenging for some teams, notably UPDF FC in the 15th position, and Arua Hill languishing at the bottom of the table with only 5 points from 15 outings.

As the league progresses, crucial matches await, including Busoga United’s pivotal encounter against Vipers and URA FC’s clash with Sports Club Villa, a game that promises excitement after their previous encounter at Wankulukuku.
