Startimes UPL: NEC, Kitara continue to impress

NEC Football Club continued to embrace the big stage as they thrashed Busoga United Football Club at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo on Friday evening.

The new league entrants put five(5) past a wasteful Busoga side with goal coming in from the team Captain Marvin Kavuma who arose with a double just like the club’s summer signings Rashid Okocha, Allan Mugalu and Brian Kayanja.

With a result that doesn’t tell the whole story of the game, both teams had chances wasted but Busoga will blame themselves due to poor preparation to a season where they don’t have some of their key players of the previous season.

Despite NEC having had chances to score more than five with Kavuma and veteran striker Geofrey Ssenkuma missing the target on a couple of occasions, their midfielder Kimwero Shamir delivered a masterful performance, controling the centre of the park something that earned him the well-deserved title of Man of the Match.

NEC have now collected two clean sheets and scored six goals in two games after they edged Mbarara City at Kakyeka in their first Uganda Premier League game.

In the other Startimes Uganda Premier League games of the day Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club secure their first win this season beating a stubborn Gaddafi with goals from new signing Moses Aliro and Centre back Najib Fesali in the 29th and 56th minute respectively.

For Kitara they also continued their impressive start to the campaign edging UPDF FC by a goal. This was an Own goal was scored by the Army boys defender Christopher Kawagu who accidentally tappped in a Solomon Okwalinga ball from the right, six minutes to the half time break.

Prior to the goal, Denis Omedi had put the Royals up front earlier after a good through ball by Frank Tumwesigye Zaga but the goal was ruled out for offside.

After the game, Two of Kitara’s defenders Ibrahim Magandaazi and Benjamin Nyakoojo were awarded 100K each because they were named man of the match against SC Villa and UPDF respectively.
