KCCA FC new head coach, Morley Byekwaso started his assignment as head coach of 13-time Uganda Premier League champions KCCA FC with a 3-0 win over BUL FC on Friday evening at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
Filbert Obenchan’s goal just before the break was enough to push the Kasasiro Boys into the lead before second half goals by Charles Lwanga and Julius Poloto toasted Byekwaso his first win.
The Kasasiro Boys, who mutually agreed to part ways with Mike Mutebi on Monday and appointed Byekwaso on interim basis, started brightly, and almost got ahead 14 minutes into the game, but Charles Lwanga failed to connect well with an excellent ball from Hebert Achai from the left.
The home side continued to dominate proceedings but struggled to break down BUL backline in the opening half until just before the halftime break when Obenchan broke the deadlock, heading in from the far post after an excellent Anukani cross from the right. But, before the goal, the visitors, BUL FC had two chances to find the back of the net squandered by Simon Peter Oketch and Robert Mukogotya.
Mukogotya saw his effort rattle the upright in the 25th minutes with KCCA goalie Charles Lukwago well beaten, while Oketch failed to finish from a point black range distance after being sent through by Ojok Deogratious.
At the beginning of the second half, KCCA FC were gifted a second by goalie Ali Kimera after he failed to clear his lines well for Charles Lwanga to sneak the ball into an empty net.
The yellow boys were unlucky not to find the third of the game on two separate occasions after Ali Kimera parried away Sadat Anaku’s shot in the 48th minute before substitute Julius Poloto’s freekick came off the crossbar and back into play in the 60th minute.
Returning forward, Julius Poloto got his goal fourteen minutes afterward after he raced onto Keziron Kizito’s splitting pass to smartly put the ball past Kimera for KCCA’s third.
After that ‘very important’ win and the first victory for Byekwaso, KCCA reclaim their fourth spot with 30 points garnered in 16 games. BUL FC moves a place down to 10th with 20 points and will play Kyetume FC next in the league.
