StarTimes UPL: Kankonde thunderous strike propels KCCA past Busoga United

Simon Tshisungu Kankonde netted the winning goal for KCCA as they overcame Busoga United 2-1 in a StarTimes Uganda Premier League game played on Friday.

Kankonde’s goal came in the second half after Tibita Laban had earlier cancelled out Julius Poloto’s opener.

With just 21 minutes played, Poloto put KCCA in the lead- converting from the spot after Mohammad Shaban was pegged back goalkeeper Michael Lutaaya in the area.

But that lead never lasted too long as Tibita levelled matters for Busoga with a wonderful effort following Moses Longono’s setup.

With just under 11 minutes to the death of the game, Kankonde produced a moment of magic to restore the Kasasiro Boys’ lead. The Congolese forward collected the ball from Mohammad Senonga and thunderously hit the ball past a helpless Lutaaya.

That superb strike by Kankonde proved the winner for KCCA, who now extend their lead to nine games.

The Kasasiro Boys also extend their lead to five points at the top and will play Bright Stars next.

For Busoga United, they remain second bottom with six points in 13 games.
