Eric Kambale scored the lone goal on Tuesday evening to help Express FC fly past Police FC 1-0 in a StarTimes Uganda Premier League game played at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

With just 6 minutes left on the clock, Kambale rose high to head in his third goal of the season and the game’s winner to ensure that ensured Express FC returned to winning.

The two sides, Express and Police were forced to play on a water-logged pitch due to the heavy downpour at the start of the game and because of this, the first realistic shot at goal came in the 43rd minute when Express FC captain Enock Walusimbi put his wonderful effort from close range just wide after he pounced onto a loose ball in the Police’s penalty area.

The game went into recess with nothing on the scoresheet for both sides.

With chances far and between in the game, it was the Red Eagles who dominated possession the most but lacked that final spark to break the deadlock until the 84th minute when a Godfrey Lwesibawa freekick found Henry Katongole poorly positioned, prompting Kambale to rise high and nod the ball that hit the crossbar before bouncing off into the back of the net.

But just before the goal, Lwesibawa got a chance to put Express ahead but his shot instead rattled his effort at the upright after he launched onto a Kambale flicked header.

Just before the death of the game, Substitute Ben Ocen had a chance to level scores but put his effort wide after getting at the end of Denis Rukundo’s low cross.

With the win today, Express move to second position on the log with 32 points garnered in 15 games and are now a point behind current log leaders, URA who will play Onduparaka tomorrow. Police FC remain 5th on the log with 25 points.

In the other game played in the StarTimes UPL, UPDF FC was held to a goalless draw by Wakiso Giants at the Bombo Military grounds.
