Sadat Anaku scored his sixth goal in as many games as KCCA FC came from a goal down to earn a point against Police FC in the Startimes Uganda Premier League game played at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
KCCA FC were trailing after Muwadda Mawejje’s early first half goal when Anaku scored a second-half equaliser that saw the in-form hosts stretch their unbeaten run to seven games.
In a Lugogo battle at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Police started the game with a spark registering their first attempt on goal when Ducan Sseninde’s cross was well met up by Muwadda but the wingback’s headed effort was easily collected by Charles Lukwago.
Police continued to dominate proceedings and from their second attempt on target in the 13th minute, they broke the deadlock when Muwadda Mawejje tapped in after Sseninde dribbled past three KCCA FC defenders, turning them inside out to send in a low pass to connect Brian Mululi whose effort fell into the way of Muwadda Mawejje who tapped in for the Cops.
Few minutes afterwards, Sseninde created another goal scoring opportunity for the Cops but Mululi was so slow to react with Albert Achai meeting the ball first to clear it away for a corner kick.
With the chances for KCCA FC seemingly too far in the opening half, the Kasasiro Boys finally found their first shot at goal when Sadat Anaku rose high to head onto Samuel Kato’s cross from the right but Derrick Ochan was spot on to parry the ball above the crossbar for a corner kick.
Mululi wasted another chance to double the Cops advantage just at the half-hour mark when he failed to connect with a Ruben Kimera’s brilliant cross from the left side.
Having failed to impose himself more, upfront, Police head coach Abdullah Mubiru brought on former URA FC striker, Henry Kisekka, for Brian Mululi just before the halftime break.
The Kasasiro Boys also made a change at the beginning of the second half, bringing on experienced Keziron Kizito for Moses Aliro with hope for his side to create more chances upfront.
Police still seemed the brighter side in the early moments of the second half and KCCA had Lukwago to thank when he denied Police twice within two minutes. The KCCA goalie denied Tonny Kiwalazzi first in the 46th minute before pulling off a brilliant save to deny Kisekka’s bullet shot a minute after.
The Cops continued to cause problems for the KCCA backline and in the 64th minute, they were unlucky not extend their lead when Ben Ocen, who came on for Muwadda Mawejje was denied by the upright with Lukwago well beaten after a Sseninde cross.
With 70 minutes on the clock, KCCA levelled matters after Kato pinged a wonderful pass over the top of their defence for Sadat Anaku to pounce and head in wonderfully, leaving Derrick Ochan startled to restore parity.
With 9 minutes left on the clock, the Kasasiro Boys got a chance to go in front but Bright Anukani put his effort just above the crossbar after wonderful work by Anaku who found him unmarked.
With the draw, KCCA FC now stay fourth on the log with 27 points garnered in 14 games while Police FC are a place lower in 5th with 25 points.
KCCA FC will make a short trip to Kitende to take on defending champions Vipers next on Tuesday, while Police FC host Express FC at the same venue.
