The third day of the CU Women’s National League Division One produced a compelling mix of a tightly contested Soroti derby and a one-sided exhibition from Jinja SSS, who extended their dominance with back-to-back victories over Wanderers CC.
In the Soroti derby, Soroti City CC and Olila CC traded blows in a double-header that swung both ways.
In the morning encounter, Olila struggled to build momentum after electing to bat, managing 96 for 8 in their 20 overs despite resistance from captain Malisa Ariokot, who top-scored with 37, and contributions from Joan Ilora (28) and Phiona Egaru Kulume (10).
Soroti City’s disciplined attack was led by Naume Jane Amongin, who returned 3 for 13, as they restricted the total effectively.
Soroti City’s chase was anchored by Joyce Mary Arugo, who guided her side with an unbeaten 32, supported by Proscovia Alako (20), as they reached 100 for 7 with four balls to spare to seal a narrow three-wicket win.
The afternoon game saw a complete turnaround as Olila bounced back strongly after opting to bat again, posting a competitive 139 for 5.
Malisa Ariokot delivered a commanding unbeaten 69, while Lorna Anyait added a fluent 45, capitalising on dropped chances. Despite Soroti City’s efforts with the ball through Asumin Akurut, Olila’s total proved enough.
Soroti City responded with intent but fell short at 126 for 9, with Jimia Muhammed (35) and Proscovia Alako (27) offering resistance before Olila’s bowling unit closed out a 13-run win to share honours in the derby.
Elsewhere, Jinja SSS delivered a ruthless double over Wanderers CC, underlining their dominance with both bat and ball.
In the opening clash of the day, Jinja SSS posted a blistering 117 for 1 in just 10 overs, powered by a destructive 80 from Stephanie Nampina and an unbeaten 29 from Elizabeth Acheng.
Sheila Namagoba then led the bowling effort with 2 for 8 as Wanderers were restricted to 60 for 5, despite resistance from Mary Namiiro.
The second fixture was even more dominant, as Wanderers were bundled out for 74 in 15 overs, with Namagoba starring again with 4 for 10, supported by Asha Mukite and Rashidah Tikabula.
Chasing a modest target, Jinja SSS cruised to 76 for 1 in just 5.5 overs, with Nampina finishing unbeaten on 46 as they wrapped up a commanding nine-wicket victory.
The day ultimately highlighted contrasting narratives—an evenly split Soroti rivalry marked by individual brilliance on both sides, and the overwhelming superiority of Jinja SSS, whose explosive batting and disciplined bowling secured them back-to-back emphatic wins.
