Soroti City vs Olila – Soroti City Oval
A highly anticipated Soroti derby takes centre stage at Soroti City Oval, where Soroti City host Olila CC in a clash between two sides in strong early-season form. Both teams opened their campaigns with convincing wins, Soroti City completing a double over Wanderers, while Olila also impressed with victories against Jinja SS.
Recent encounters between the two sides have been evenly matched, adding extra weight to the rivalry. Soroti City have claimed two wins in their last three meetings, while Olila have taken one.
Back in 2023, Soroti City edged Olila by seven wickets after successfully chasing 81. The following season, Soroti City again held their nerve, defending 125 to win by 16 runs in another close contest.
However, Olila struck back in emphatic fashion in their most recent major meeting, dominating the Lyca Women’s T20 final last year to secure a commanding nine-wicket victory and lift the title. Soroti City were bowled out for 74, before Olila cruised to victory through an unbeaten 32 from Esther Iloku and 25 from Asumin Akurut.
That performance highlighted Olila’s growing strength on big occasions and shifted momentum in the rivalry.
A win here would further strengthen Olila’s recent dominance, while Soroti City will be eager to respond strongly in front of home support.
Beyond the contest on the field, the fixture also carries community value, creating opportunities for local involvement in officiating, scoring, ground preparation, and matchday trade.
Olila will again lean on their in-form batting lineup featuring Esther Iloku and Phiona Kulume, while Soroti City will look to experienced names such as Janet Mbabazi, Proscovia Alako, Jimia Abdallah, and Naume Jane Amongin to lead their charge.
Jinja SS vs Wanderers – Jinja SS Cricket Oval
The second fixture sees Jinja SS host Wanderers at Jinja SS Cricket Oval in another key Division One encounter between two sides still searching for consistency.
Both teams suffered defeats on Matchday One, though Jinja SS responded with a morale-boosting win over Tornado Bees on Day Two. Wanderers, meanwhile, will be aiming to recover from a difficult start to their campaign.
The last meeting between these two sides came in the 2023 UCA Women’s T20 League, where Wanderers edged a tight contest by 13 runs. Wanderers posted 119/6, powered by Rita Musamali’s 47, before restricting Jinja SS to 106/6 despite a fighting 32 from Stephanie Nampiina. Sarah Walaza’s tight spell proved crucial in the closing stages.
Two years later, both teams return with renewed focus and fresh ambition. Jinja SS will again look to Stephanie Nampiina, whose experience and consistency have strengthened their top order and leadership structure.
Wanderers, however, remain a balanced outfit and will rely on Sonia Nampeera, who currently leads the MVP standings, to drive their response.
With both sides eager to gain early control of the season, another closely fought contest is expected, where momentum could again be decided in key phases of the game.
