Soroti City stays top after remarkable comeback

Soroti City Cricket Club demonstrated their resilience and strategic prowess in a thrilling match against Tornado Cricket Club at Jinja SS Cricket Oval, securing a remarkable comeback victory by a margin of 20 runs.

Although Tornado briefly halted Soroti’s unbeaten streak earlier in the day with a 28-run victory, the City Boys exhibited remarkable resolve to overturn the tables.

Captain of Soroti City Cricket Club maintained his winning streak with the toss, opting to bat in the afternoon—an astute decision that proved fruitful.

Despite a sluggish start where Soroti City found themselves at 15/1 at the end of the power play. Skipper Ebulu Ronald’s aggressive 34 off 20 and Bakunzi Derrick’s composed 32 off 25 set the stage for Soroti’s innings.

Contributions from Ainebyona Alban (14 off 29) and Malinga Jacob (13 off 14) added crucial runs, allowing the team to reach a competitive total of 122/5 after 20 overs.

In the chase, Tornado Cricket Club showcased commendable efforts, with Ejidra Geoffrey (21 off 26), recent addition Ajuna Robert (18 off 20), Gabula John (23 off 21), and Asiku Jackson (19 off 29) leading the charge.

However, despite their resilience, the entire side could only manage 102/6 within the allotted 20 overs.

The pivotal moment of the game occurred in the 8th over when Steven Wabwose was run out, having scored only 1 run off 2 balls.

Thanks to the valiant efforts of Apollo Jospeh and Steven Okiror, Wabwose’s premature departure deprived the team of a significant contribution.

Ochen Peter, although failing to make a substantial impact with the bat after a cheap dismissal, redeemed himself with a strong bowling performance, claiming 2 wickets in his allotted 4 overs.

In the bowling department, Juma Sururu, Malinga Jacob, and Derrick Bakunzi, who also clinched the player of the Match title, each claimed a solitary wicket, contributing significantly to Soroti City’s victory, marking their fourth win of the campaign.

With this triumph, Soroti City Cricket Club maintains its position at the top of the table with 9 points. Their upcoming fixture against SKLPS at Entebbe Cricket Oval next weekend promises to be another exciting challenge.
