Rugby Premier League: Kobs retain Mileke Shield, Heathens cruise past Buffaloes


Matchday Two of the 2021-22 Nile Special Stout Uganda Rugby Premier League was characterised by high scoring games as all sides battled for better starts and honours.

At Legends rugby grounds, Betway Kobs defeated 9 Barrels Warriors 55-09 to retain the Mileke Shield. Pius Ogena and Brian Ochan both touched down twice for the Kobs to win the second edition of the Mileke Memorial Shield on Saturday evening in honour of the late Papa Patrick Aredo Mileke.

At Kyadondo Rugby club, Heathens swept Buffaloes 39-03 with six tries from Norbert Okeny, Joseph Oyet, Jordan Bongomin, innocent Gwoktho and Paul Epillo each to inspire their side to a second consecutive win.

At Makerere, it was a tight game as Rhinos defeated Rams 14-13 at the Makerere Graveyard playground. Both Musa Bulenga and Allan Olango touched down for the Rhinos while Lubangakene made a try for the Rams.

The only match played out of the city saw Jinja Hippos finally begin their campaign with a 38-08 victory over Impis at the Dam Waters Rugby Club in Jinja. Man of the match Maxwell Ebong had 3 tries and 4 conversions as the Jinja based side collected their first win of the season.

At Kings Park, Bweyogerere, Stanbic Black Pirates outclassed Mongers 36-08 with Isaac Rujumba and Timothy Kisiga making two tries each in the process to garner their first win of the season after closely losing their opener to defending champions, Heathens.
