All rounder Riazat Ali Shah stood out with the bat in the last three overs to help Uganda win the 2022 ACA Africa T20 Cup after dispatching Tanzania by 8 wickets.

With Uganda trailing by 48 runs by the end of the 17th over, Riazat produced moments of magic in the last three overs as he batted seven boundaries ( which included five 6’s) to ensure Uganda were successful in their chase of Tanzania’s 174/5.

Uganda won the toss and elected to bowl first. Tanzania were quick out of the blocks as they made 65 runs in the power play thanks to their opening partnership of Abhik Patwa and Ivan Selemani who made a combined 70 runs before Selemani was bowled out by Ramjani in the 8th over. After that, the run scoring for Tanzania slowed down as Deus Muhumuza picked up two further wickets to restrict Tanzania to 174/5 in 20 overs.

Uganda’s chase started off slowly as opening batter and skipper Brian Masaba was dismissed by Harsheed Chohan for lbw from his first ball while his partner Simon Ssesazi went in third over (18).

But, Deus Muhumuza (50 *) and Riazat (98 *) took the wind out of the sail with their partnership to see Uganda through.

This win sees Uganda win the inaugural Africa T20 Cup, which had 8 elite nations from across Africa.
