Indatwa Hampshire Women showcased an impressive start to the RCA Women’s T10 League, claiming the top spot on the points table after the tournament’s kick-off at the Gahanga Cricket Stadium in Kigali, Rwanda.

The event, coinciding with National Heroes’ Day celebrations, marked the beginning of the exhilarating Women’s RCA T10 League on Day 1.

In a captivating match against Muhanga Zebras, Indatwa Hampshire secured a commanding victory by 46 runs, catapulting them to the summit of the league standings.

Openers Gisele Ishimwe and wicketkeeper-batter Flora Irakoze demonstrated exceptional resilience by batting through all ten overs.

Flora’s strategic rotation of the strike contributed to her scoring 26 off 23 balls, while Gisele Ishimwe displayed explosive prowess with an unbeatable 72 off 38, including 8 boundaries and 2 maximums, boasting a strike rate of 189.

Gisele Ishimwe’s outstanding performance earned her the Player of the Match title, and she leads the run-scoring charts after the first matchday.

Ishimwe continued her outstanding form showcased in Entebbe last December during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers.

In that remarkable event, she achieved a significant milestone by surpassing 1000 international runs.

Indatwa Hampshire posted a formidable total of 106 for no loss in 10 overs. In response, Muhanga Zebras struggled, managing only 60/7 in 10 overs and facing their second loss on the opening day.

Their captain, Henriet Ishimwe, skillfully guided her team in defending the score, placing her trust in the excellent bowling performance of Marie Jose Tumukunde.

Tumukunde not only bowled effectively but also played a crucial role in minimizing the damage for Indatwa by taking three wickets.

Alongside her, Grace Mugwaneza contributed significantly to the defensive effort, securing two crucial wickets.

Currently leading the RCA Women’s T10 League points table with 2 points, Indatwa Hampshire shares the same points as Gahanga Queens and Sorwathe Cricket Club.

However, their superior run rate sets them apart from the other two teams.

Additional players honored with Player of the Match awards on the opening day include Zurafat Ishimwe (2/2 in 2 overs) from Gahanga Queens Women, demonstrating exceptional bowling skills.

Rosine Irera also stood out with her unbeaten 9 off 9 not out and impressive bowling figures of 3/8 in 2 overs, contributing significantly to her team.

Looking ahead to the upcoming fixtures on Saturday, February 3rd, Sorwathe Cricket Club is set to face Muhanga Zebras in the morning, followed by a clash with Gahanga Queens in the afternoon, both scheduled at the Gahanga Cricket Stadium.
