Amidst the fervor of the RCA Men’s T10 League’s opening day at the Gahanga Cricket Stadium in Kigali last Sunday, the newly promoted teams, Kutchi Sports Cricket Club and Indorwa Cricket Club, faced formidable challenges but failed to clinch victory.

In the clash between Kutchi Sports and Challengers Cricket Club, the latter’s skipper, Srinath Vardhineni, made a strategic call to bowl first after winning the toss.

This decision paid off as Kutchi Sports struggled to set a substantial target, managing only 22/5 in their allotted overs.

Challengers’ Eric Niyomugabo showcased his batting prowess, guiding his team to a convincing victory with an unbeaten 15 off just 7 balls.

Despite efforts from Kutchi Sports’ Yvan Mitari and captain Pankaj Vekaria, who secured a wicket each, Challengers emerged victorious by eight wickets.

Notably, Ugandan cricket Cranes player, Siraje Nsubuga, played a pivotal role for Challengers, claiming two wickets while conceding just four runs in a single over.

In another gripping encounter, defending champions IPRC Kigali Cricket Club demonstrated their dominance with a commanding 32-run victory over debutants Indorwa Cricket Club.

batsmen Niyomugabo Isaie and Oscar Manishimwe set the tone for IPRC, propelling them to a total of 97/4.

Despite a valiant effort from Indorwa’s captain, Mihir Bhatt, and Jaydeep Zala, they fell short, managing only 65/5 in their chase.

The performances of Eric Niyomugabo, Niyomugabo Isaie, and Eric Dusingzimana earned them well-deserved player of the match awards, highlighting their exceptional contributions on the opening day.

Looking ahead to the upcoming matches on February 11, 2024, anticipation brews as Indorwa faces Challengers, Zion Tigers clashes with Kutchi Tigers Cricket Club, and Right Guards Cricket Club takes on IPRC Kigali.

The early exchanges in the league promise a fierce competition for the championship title, igniting excitement among cricket enthusiasts in Rwanda.
